Pall Corp. to Present on Filtration Opportunities in the Energy Sector at American Filtration & Separations Society (AFS) Conference
Global growth of the middle class is driving increased consumption of fuels, chemicals and polymers. Greg Collins, Senior Vice President, Water and Energy Business Group for Pall Corporation (NYSE:PLL), will speak on the filtration challenges and opportunities brought about by this demographic change at the 2011 Fall American Filtration & Separations Society (AFS) Conference. The discussion, “Emerging Opportunities and Challenges for the Filtration Industry in Serving the Energy Sector,” will take place on Wednesday, October 19, during the AFS Conference and Exhibition (October 17 - 20 in Houston, Texas). AFS is a nonprofit educational organization created to provide a forum for exchange of information among engineers, scientists, and technologists in all areas of the fluid/particle separation field.
consumers of filtration and separation products within the $48 billion filtration market. A key growth driver in the energy sector, especially in emerging regions, is changes in population demographics. According to the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs Report (World Urbanization Prospects: The 2003 Revision, page 28), Africa’s urban population will increase by 2.5 times between 2000 and 2030, and Asia’s will nearly double. With 748 million urban dwellers in 2030, Africa will have 15 percent of the total world urban population, while Asia will have 54 percent, or 2.7 billion persons. Together, they will account for nearly 70 percent of the urban population of the world.
This growth in the global middle class is translating to increased production of fuels and chemicals to satisfy heightened demand for, and use of, automobiles, airplane travel and larger living accommodations. Increases are expected in the consumption of traditional energy sources as well as alternative ones such as biofuels, wind and solar power. Collins’ presentation will focus on the impact of these trends as well as other energy market drivers.
“The change in global demographics is creating technical and commercial opportunities as well as challenges for the filtration industry,” says Greg Collins, Senior Vice President, Water and Energy Business Group for Pall Corporation. “Filtration and separation providers that can consistently offer high-performance total fluid management solutions across geographic markets and energy subsets will be in the best position to capitalize on trends in the evolving energy sector.”
